Summary:

Small and Very Small Business and Services Enterprises in Brazil

Aiming at contributing to the increase of the statistical information collection about small and very small enterprises operating in the country, IBGE outlined this segment pertaining to business and services activities, which constitute the economic sectors with the largest relative participation of this business share.

The current publication includes results of the special survey carried out from the Annual Survey of Trade and Annual Survey of Services databases, relative to 2001, and contains information on personnel employed, wages, value added, receipts and expenditure of small and very small business and services enterprises, disaggregated by levels of the National Classification of Economic Activities - CNAE, Major Regions and federative units. The results are followed by analysis, which includes the behavior of birth and mortality rates of this segment, in the period from 1998 to 2000, and the structure of costs of enterprises, among other indicators, in national and regional level. It includes technical notes about the classification criteria adopted for delimiting the size of the enterprises, main aspects of the special tables of the surveys having in mind the purposes of this survey, and glossary with concepts of the used terminology. It still contains appendix with the detailed structure of CNAE relative to the selected sectors.

The published statistics highlight the importance of the small and very small business and services enterprises in the generation of jobs and income, thus subsidizing the definition of the necessary tools to foment their activities.
