The Beige Book
The Beige Book (named for the color of its cover) is released two weeks prior to each FOMC meeting eight times per year. Each Federal Reserve bank gathers anecdotal information on current economic conditions in its district through reports from bank and branch directors and interviews with key businessmen, economists, market experts, and other sources. State of the Cities Data Systems
HUD's Office of Policy Development & Research has worked with federal statistical agencies to produce special data runs on a number of economic performance indicators for metro areas, including demographics, employment, and crime. The unique aspect of this site is that data are disaggregated by central cities and suburbs.

Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) House Price Index
The HPI is a broad measure of the movement of single-family house prices. It is a weighted, repeat-sales index, meaning that it measures average price changes in repeat sales or refinancings on the same properties. The HPI includes house price figures for the nine Census Bureau divisions, for the 50 states and the District of Columbia, and for Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and Divisions.

Geospatial and Attribute Data - U.S. by State
The University of Arkansas's state-by-state guide to online and "mostly free" Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data. A GIS is a computer system capable of capturing, storing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information; that is, data identified according to location. GIS technology can be used for scientific investigations, resource management, and development planning. For example, a GIS might allow emergency planners to easily calculate emergency response times in the event of a natural disaster.
